Regional Communications Lead in Svitzer
Do you want to drive internal change and external positioning in a communications role with regional and global impact and high business criticality? Svitzer, an independent brand within Maersk Transport and Logistics division, is the world’s largest towage company, owning and operating vessels in 32 countries and employing 3,900 employees, is looking for an experienced communications consultant to develop and drive engaging strategic communications in the Europe region and across the global company.


The Communications Lead role is a newly created position and the primary objective of the role is to develop and implement a regional internal/external communication framework, including but not limited to stakeholder management & advisory, key messaging, channel due diligence and content production & activation. The main purpose will be to drive engagement and change from top to frontline – directly as well as by enabling management at all levels.
Working closely with the Svitzer Global Head of Communications, you will be tasked with developing bespoke communication tools and approaches that support the region and can be leveraged as best practice across the global organisation.

In the Communications Lead role you will be centrally placed in the business with direct access to senior management, collaborating and networking with the global and regional communication teams in Svitzer and within Maersk Transport & Logistics Division. You will be joining a position with development opportunities in a dynamic, international region, with operation in six countries, 100 colleagues on-shore and 850 at sea.
As Regional Communication Lead, you will drive communication in a highly exciting business where communication plays a significant role in the regional business strategy. You will have the opportunity to work closely with functional managers and frontline, develop your business acumen and be part of further developing communication as business support regionally and globally. You will work in a highly international environment and get a broad network within Svitzer as well as within the Maersk Group, where learning and development opportunities are numerous. Some travelling is to be expected.
This position is based in our global and regional Svitzer headquarters in Copenhagen. A lean and flat structure in a performance driven culture gives you the ability to have significant impact on the performance of our team and our company.

Key responsibilities

You will be responsible for the overall communication strategy for Svitzer Europe, where stakeholder management and communicating our strategy internally and externally is in focus. You will furthermore be responsible for developing and delivering integrated communications for the business that engages internal and external stakeholders, building a positive reputation and helping to achieve business objectives. You are responsible for the regional communication, working closely with Group Communications to match corporate and regional priorities.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
  • Develop an overall communication strategy including messages, timing, formats, etc. that serves the regional purpose and is closely aligned with the global communication strategy;
  • Maintain an annual regional communication calendar incl. prioritisation and planning of communication activities and events;
  • Develop content and updates for targeted key internal and external stakeholders to drive change and position Svitzer. Prioritise and strengthen internal and external channels;
  • Support business and customer contract owners in strengthening relations with clients, unions, port authorities and other key external parties;
  • Handling media: prepare media statements and releases. Respond to media enquiries – in close collaboration with Svitzer Global Head of Communication and Maersk Transport & Logistics Communication;
  • Serving as a communication consultant for management, coaching and supporting regional management team/spokespeople on internal and external communication;
  • Improving leader-to-stakeholder communications and supply relevant tools;
  • Communicating on new strategy focus areas;
  • Providing communications support for key projects across the business including improving our safety program.

Who we are looking for

Our ideal candidate has previous experience in leading and managing all aspects of internal and external communications activities in an international organisation, either from a communication agency or in-house communication function. You are strategically strong and possess the ability to conceptualise, plan and implement. You are self-motivated with a high drive, a clear thinker and a great writer.
In order to be successful you need to demonstrate:
  • Master’s degree in communication or degree in journalism plus 5+ years relevant job experience;
  • Track record of building communications capability in frontline leaders;
  • Demonstrated ability to produce significant work volume within tight timeframes;
  • Independent, self-motivated and driven, operating as a team player;
  • Highly developed sense of urgency coupled with a quality mind-set;
  • A global mind-set and outstanding oral and written English communications skill, including effective writing skills for intranet, executive messaging and presentations;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a Communications Plan that addresses a complex matrix of stakeholders with differing communications requirements;
  • Strong understanding of the different communications channels and their effectiveness for different stakeholders, and ability to use these channels for maximum effect.
